Consequently, demand for general-purpose rubber and plastic components is expected to rise steadily, boding well for the industry’s future prospects.
Process Flow Description for General-Purpose Rubber and Plastic Components:
(1) Internal Mixing: Purchase finished rubber raw materials and subject them to internal mixing.
(2) Open Milling: The rubber compound is pre-processed; the compound produced by internal mixing is then fed into an open mill for further thermal milling. The purpose of this step is to enhance the uniformity of mixing and further increase the plasticity of the compound. The open mill uses electric heating to calender the compound, with the calendering temperature maintained at approximately 40°C, and the process is cooled using recirculating cooling water. During thermal milling, thermal rubber fumes (including total non-methane hydrocarbons and other components) are generated—G1.
(3) Vulcanization and Molding: Vulcanization is one of the primary processing steps in rubber product manufacturing. Under conditions of heat and pressure, the rubber polymer chains transform from a linear structure to a cross-linked network structure, resulting in significant improvements in the material’s physical and mechanical properties as well as other performance characteristics. This project employs mold (or injection) compression vulcanization. The vulcanization temperature ranges from 130°C to 160°C, and the process requires both pressurization and electric heating. During demolding after vulcanization, vulcanization fumes—comprising hydrogen sulfide and non-methane total hydrocarbons—are generated.
(4) Trimming: After vulcanization and molding, rubber products must be manually trimmed and processed using a trimming machine to remove excess rubber compound and minimize dimensional deviations. This process generates scrap edge material S1.
